Recording Data Using Tally Marks

Tally marks are a simple and efficient way to record and count data as it is collected. Each tally mark represents one count. When counting, every group of five is represented by four vertical lines with a diagonal line crossing them, making it easy to count in groups of five. This method helps in quick counting and reduces errors. Tally marks are especially useful when data is being collected in real time, such as counting the number of vehicles passing a point or the number of students who like a particular sweet. After data collection, tally marks can be converted into numerical values for further analysis and representation. Using tally marks in tables helps in summarizing data effectively.
