Plumbing

Plumbing is the skilled work of installing, maintaining, and repairing systems that carry water, liquids, gases, or waste through pipes. It involves planning pipe routes, selecting suitable materials such as PVC, GI, or CPVC pipes, cutting pipes to required lengths, joining pipes securely, fitting taps and valves, and ensuring smooth water flow without leaks or blockages. Key components include valves that control water flow, joints which connect pipes or fittings, and the flow itself—the movement of water through the system. Tools used in plumbing include pipe wrenches and spanners for tightening or loosening joints, hacksaws or pipe cutters for cutting pipes, thread seal tape or adhesives to prevent leakage, and plungers to clear blocked drains. Accurate measurement and alignment are ensured using measuring tapes and spirit levels. Safety is critical; plumbers must wear gloves and goggles, keep hands dry, maintain a clean workspace, and dispose of waste properly. Quality parameters focus on leak-free joints, proper alignment of pipes, secure fittings, smooth water flow, and minimal material waste. The plumbing process starts with scoping by observing existing systems and choosing simple tasks like fixing a leaking tap or replacing a joint.
