3.3 Site visit

Site visits provide practical exposure to precision farming by allowing students to observe real-world applications. Visits can be arranged to Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), agricultural universities, greenhouses, or urban gardens. During the visit, students should focus on tools and materials used, key processes, safety protocols, schedules of activities, quality criteria, and technology adoption.

Observing the use of digital tools such as sensors, apps, and automated systems helps understand how technology integrates with traditional farming. Discussions with experts can reveal the values of precision farming, such as improved produce quality, environmental care, employment opportunities, and economic benefits. Challenges faced by practitioners, like infrastructure limitations or climate variability, can also be discussed.

Students are encouraged to document observations in a structured manner and develop a process chart for their own precision farming activities based on insights gained from the visit.
