Lines and Angles | Class 6 Mathematics Notes

Lines and Angles – this guide gives you a concise, exam-ready overview of Lines and Angles from Class 6 Mathematics, written by ConceptScroll editors and reviewed against the latest NCERT textbook.

2.8 Special Types of Angles

This section introduces special types of angles based on their measures and geometric properties. A straight angle is formed when two arms lie in a straight line, measuring exactly 180°. It represents a half turn. By folding paper or a book cover, students can observe how a straight angle can be divided into two equal parts called right angles, each measuring 90°. Right angles resemble the shape of the letter 'L' and are fundamental in geometry. Lines meeting at right angles are called perpendicular lines. Additionally, angles are classified into acute angles (less than 90°), right angles (exactly 90°), and obtuse angles (greater than 90° but less than 180°). These classifications help in identifying and describing angles in various contexts.

📊 Diagram: See figure_14 to figure_19 showing folding of book cover and paper to form straight and right angles; figure_20 showing division of straight angle by ray OC.

🧪 Activity: Fold paper to create right angles and perpendicular lines; observe and justify equality of angles formed.

🔗 Connection: Leads to classifying angles by their measures and measuring angles.
