This section introduces the course and highlights the significance of money in the economic world. According to Geoffrey Crowther (1951), in his book 'Outline of Money', money is considered the most fundamental invention among all human inventions. Just as the wheel in engineering, fire in science, and vote in politics are essential, money holds a central place in economics. The entire economic aspect of human social existence is based on money. Money was invented as a medium of exchange but gradually became a means of storing value. It is crucial in all branches of economics, including consumption, production, distribution, and revenue. Therefore, money is often described as the axis around which the entire economy revolves. Studying money is essential for a complete understanding of economics. This course not only covers money but also provides knowledge about banking and revenue, discussing the utility of money in these areas. There are a total of 17 units in the curriculum, with the first four dedicated to money. These units cover the definition and functions of money, its demand and supply, the value of money, and the quantity theory of money, including explanations of Fisher, Cambridge, and Friedman equations. The course also discusses the elements most affecting money supply, such as commercial banks and central banks, and their activities. Units 5 to 8 introduce commercial banks, central banks, and their credit control methods.
