Self and Personality – this guide gives you a concise, exam-ready overview of Self and Personality from Class 12 Psychology, written by ConceptScroll editors and reviewed against the latest NCERT textbook.
Assessment of Personality
Personality assessment involves systematic methods to understand and predict individual behaviour accurately. It is essential for diagnosis, training, placement, and counselling. Common techniques include self-report measures, projective techniques, and behavioural analysis. Self-report measures involve structured questionnaires where individuals rate themselves, such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), and Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF). These methods may suffer from biases like social desirability and acquiescence. Projective techniques assess unconscious motives using unstructured stimuli, such as the Rorschach Inkblot Test, Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Rosenzweig's Picture-Frustration Study, Sentence Completion Test, and Draw-a-Person Test. These require expert interpretation and reveal deep-rooted conflicts. Behavioural analysis includes interviews, observation, behavioural ratings, nomination, and situational tests, providing data from naturalistic or controlled settings. Each method has strengths and limitations, and skilled administration is crucial.
